A bit about me
I'm Lincoln Vann-Wakelin, a second-year computer science student at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (BSc (Hons) Computer Science, 2025-2029). I averaged 78% in first year (pass with distinction), with 86% in Programming Foundations and 83% in Machines, Languages & Computation.
AI and cognitive science
I'm interested in AI alignment, mechanistic interpretability, and where computation and cognition overlap. I've taken courses through LEAF, including BlueDot's AI alignment course, where I focused on interpretability and scalable oversight. I'm looking for internships in software engineering or any area of AI or machine learning.
Experience
Since November 2024 I've been on the board of Us 2 U, a charity in Dumfries, and I'm their press officer too. As well as sitting on the board, I run their Facebook page (posts reach 20,000+ people) and organise the volunteers for the Christmas food parcels - up to 50 people at a time. Before that I was a shop assistant at Oxfam in Dumfries (May-Dec 2024), helping out with stock and the shop's day-to-day IT.
I work with Python, Java, C, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, R, React, Svelte, PyTorch, Hugging Face, SQL and Linux.
Outside computing
I read sci-fi, fantasy and webnovels, both in English and in translation. I play Magic: The Gathering in my free time, as well as any board games people want to play.
